Deconstruction:
- Medium: Digital
- Materials: 1s & 0s and pixels
- Subject Matter: The subject of this image is the bowl of skittles, and the text relates the bowl of skittles to the Syrian refugee crisis.
- Aesthetic Qualities: This image is attempting to be neither beautiful, nor sublime. It's just supposed to scare you via the text.
- Composition: The focal point of this image is the bowl of skittles.
- Gesture: There is no human gesture in this image.
- Formal Elements: There is a lot going on in this picture. The text is white. The question is behind the red background, and the response is behind the blue background. The combination of red, white, and blue, gives the image a sort of patriotic feel. The colors of the skittles (yellow, orange, green) are colors that are not "American", which plays into the idea that they are not us.
- Lighting: The image is bright, and the red draws your eyes to the text. I'm very confused to how the bowl does not have a shadow behind it.
- Dimension: The dimension looks pretty small.
- Location: This image was first displayed on Twitter, but is now all over the internet.
- Display: This image has a lot going on because there is a lot of text and a bowl of skittles.
Response:
This image takes a while to process because of how much that is going on. If you're a compassionate, genuine human, you get really angry at Trump Jr's oversimplification of the Syrian Refugee Crisis. And then you realize that the image is not even accurate at all, because, proportionately, waaaaaay less than 3 skittles out of the entire bowl should be considered dangerous.
