Puppy Chow

Image result for puppy chow advertisement
Deconstruction:
  • Medium: Digital
  • Materials: 1s & 0s and pixels
  • Subject Matter: The subject of this image is puppy chow.
  • Aesthetic Qualities: This image neither sublime nor beautiful.
  • Gesture: The dogs look like they're really enjoying the food.
  • Formal Elements: The image is kinda bland, with a mustard yellow all over, which makes the yellow dog blend in. The text is brown, which doesn't pop out either. It looks like an advertisement designed with Dwight Shute's clothes in mind. There is some negative space in the right corner. The picture has an old-time feel to it.
  • Lighting: The yellow looks darker at the top left corner, and gets lighter as it spreads out.
  • Dimension: The writing above the puppy chow food is way way way too small. The dogs should honestly be bigger.
  • Location: This image was found on the internet, but could be used in a pet store.
  • Display: This image is kinda cute, but only once you read the text at the top. It is not aesthetically pleasing.
    Response:
The only cute part about this ad is the puppies. But I suppose that's enough to make me like it, because overall I still think it's cute, although after breaking it down in the deconstruction, I realize I hate every other part of it.

    Grip Back

    Deconstruction:
    • Medium: Digital
    • Materials: 1s & 0s and pixels
    • Subject Matter: The subject of this image is Subaru cars.
    • Aesthetic Qualities: This image is beautiful, especially because of the pretty scene in the back.
    • Composition: The focal point of this image is the blue car.
    • Gesture: No gestures.
    • Formal Elements: There's a lot of contrast between the snow and the sky. The tracks in the snow lead you from the car to the text above.
    • Lighting: The image is bright, with a small shadow behind the car.
    • Dimension: The text describing the Subaru is pretty small, but I assume that's because only people that liked the look of the car would find that usual. No one buys are car that they think is ugly.
    • Location: This image was found on the internet, but could probably also be used as a poster.
    • Display: There's some things going on in this image but it's still straight to the point.
      Response:
Being that it's starting to snow in Oneonta, the ad made me want to buy a Subaru to combat the snow this winter. The "grip back" was a good idea, because it makes me want to conquer the snow instead of struggling through it in my little car.

      Image result for apple ad
      Deconstruction:
      • Medium: Digital
      • Materials: 1s & 0s and pixels
      • Subject Matter: The subject of this image is the Apple Computer.
      • Aesthetic Qualities: This image is definitely on the sublime side.
      • Composition: The focal point of this image is the blue computer.
      • Gesture: No gestures involved.
      • Formal Elements: There is an extreme amount of negative space in this image. The font of the text is extremely generic, which plays into the simplicity of the image.
      • Lighting: The image is extremely light, because the majority is like a pure white, which allows the computer to pop out.
      • Dimension: Everything is proportional within the picture, except the Think Different at the bottom is pretty small, but is still affective because there is nothing surrounding it, and it pops out.
      • Location: This image was found on the internet, but may have been used in magazines, in stores, etc.
      • Display: This image is almost too simple, but works.
        Response:
I like this. The unapologetic-ness of the text and simplicity of the ad make it extremely effective without doing much at all.

        • Medium: Digital
        • Materials: 1s & 0s and pixels

        • Aesthetic Qualities: This image is beautiful, because pizza.
        • Composition: The focal point of this image is the pizza slice being taken.
        • Gesture: The person grabbing the pizza must be doing it very slowly, because you can see the gooey cheese hanging off the slice.
        • Formal Elements: There is a lot of yellow and red in the picture, which reminds you of pizza. The pizza looks very textured, with lots of different toppings.
        • Lighting: The image looks like its under a warm lighting, which gives the illusion that it's cooking in an oven.
        • Dimension: The "Hungry?" and phone number are written in large letters, presumably so that people know to call them.
        • Location: This image was found on the internet
        • Display: This image does not have too much going on, although the Hand-Tossed logo seems very out of place.
          Response:
Domino's makes this pizza look so good, even though we all know Domino's has horrible pizza. If I didn't know better, I would definitely call 111-Domino the next time that I need pizza.

          • Subject Matter: The subject of this image is Burnett's alcohol.
          • Aesthetic Qualities: This image is kinda pretty, but it really just looks like a party.
          • Gesture: Everything looks like a mess, which is most definitely the case whenever Burnett's is involved.
          • Formal Elements: All the different colors make the image look wild. The Burnett's logo in the middle is dark in comparison to everything else.
          • Lighting: The entire image is super bright and popping.
          • Dimension: The more fun with every flavor is small in comparison to everything else, but the pink color on a mostly white background helps it stick out.
          • Location: This image was found on the internet, and probably is mostly used there and in liquor stores.
          • Display: This image is has a lot going on, but it's very easy to interpret.
            Response:
This image reminds me of freshmen year. It's really cool because if there's really "more fun with every flavor," then apparently you can buy fun for $8.99. If I didn't know better, I'd definitely want to buy Burnett's the next time I wanted to go out.

            • Gesture: The two men look like they're cheering to something.
            • Formal Elements: The image looks like it's painted, which is really cool. The bright colors for the Blue Moon sign and central beer make them pop.
            • Lighting: The image is pretty light, with the central beer and blue moon sign especially bright.
            • Dimension: The central beer is literally bigger than both of the mens' heads.
            • Location: This image was found on the internet, but may be used in bars or on posters.
            • Display: This image is very simple.
              Response:
This image is probably intended at older men, who like to drink beers with their friends, but it makes me want to have a beer with my friends.

              • Composition: The focal point of this image is the superman condoms.
              • Gesture: Superman's shadow makes it look like he's watching you, and makes you want to grab a condom before getting it on.
              • Formal Elements: The Superman colors make condoms look like a fun thing to use. There's so much negative space in the upper and lower third of the image.
              • Lighting: The image is pretty light, but Superman's shadow covers the center of the image.
              • Dimension: The condoms are huge in proportion to the text. the "protecting metrapolis" is smaller than "one lois at a time".
              • Location: This image was found on the internet, and probably is mostly used there.
              • Display: This image is very simple and straight to the point.
                Response:
This condom ad is really cool! I liked the use of the superman shadow to make it look like he's watching you.
